課程要求
Course Requirements:
1. Read at least one assigned essay (from Newsweek, Time, or the Economist etc.) and talk about it. Be sure to read in advance and be able to give the gist of the essay in Chinese or English.
2. Be ready to give a presentation (individually or in a group of 2) on an assigned topic each semester. This should be a real talk/discussion rather than reading from the text.
3. Students should brush up on their ability in listening comprehension on their own. They must also broaden their knowledge base by all means.
4. Listen to CNN or BBC news and talk about at least one item of news in English each week.
5. Since this course is basically a practice class, punctuality and attendance is essential. Absences (excused or unexcused) over 1/5 of the total class hours will result in failure in the course.
6. Students are required to polish what they have practiced in the first hour of class. Their practice to be recorded in a tape can be either oral summaries in English or Chinese or sight translation.
7. Keep a journal of your learning each week. It will be collected twice during the sememster.
